The Sabi Sand Nature Reserve as well as MalaMala Game Reserve are world renowned for some of the best wildlife and photographic oppurtunities. When long term friends and clients reached out for a last minute “mother and son” safari adventure, we jumped at the opportunity to assist. Along with Chris Renshaw their long term friend and private guide, they embarked on a journey to these epic and wondrous locations.
We started at MalaMala Main Camp. As always, this surreal piece of Africa never disappoints, and it never ceases to amaze how much is going on there. The wildlife viewing and photographic opportunities were so plentiful, it was hard to focus on what to experience and photograph. However, we managed, and after a few days of adventure, climbing hills and koppies, and great chats, the experience left us fill of gratitude!
The next stop was to be Dulini River Lodge. A special place for many reasons, one being that this was where Chris started his guiding journey 20 years ago. After a few nostalgic tearful moments, it was incredible to reflect on his and the staffs personal journeys. Individuals that have built themselves up from gardeners to trackers and guides, to butlers that are now managers, and even young staff that are now adults with families… A really fulfilling journey for all involved. In terms of the wildlife and safari experience, it just got better… Lions and leopards everywhere, elephants and rhino, and all the other wildlife we so dearly love really did show up. A special sighting was of a male leopard. This particular male both Chris and the clients had seen when he was a young sub adult cub nearly 10 years ago, and now he is a brute tom cat that owns a vast swathe of territory.
A wonderful safari with a meleè of old memories and new, all combining to an experience that exceeded expectations for both client and guide…
