Safari Craftsmen head guide and co – owner Chris Renshaw was recently with guests on a luxury crafted and curated safari itinerary to East Africa. Here is a look at his safari in pictures, with a breakdown of the lodges and areas visited below the gallery…

Giraffe Manor, Nairobi Kenya

Giraffe Manor is a boutique hotel like no other. It combines unbelievable encounters with its resident herd of giraffes with incredible hospitality, fine dining and superb wellness facilities, to offer the most unforgettable stays. Located in a leafy suburb of Nairobi on a 140-acre forested sanctuary, it is within easy access of the main airports and all of the city’s top attractions. This makes it an ideal choice for anyone seeking a showstopping start or end to their East African safari The giraffes are the stars of the show at Giraffe Manor, and close-up encounters with them over breakfast and afternoon tea are magical. The inquisitive giraffes are always keen to be hand fed. Giraffe conservation is big part of the story and the manor has been part of a breeding programme for endangered Rothschild’s giraffes since before it became a hotel. It also supports the conservation of wild giraffes across the continent through its Giraffe Sponsorship Programme.

Sala’s Camp, Masai Mara, Kenya

Sala’s Camp offers space, comfort and great views as well as an amazing safari experience. We can accommodate up to 22 guests in seven new luxury tents dotted along the Sand River. Sala’s guests are treated to the casual elegance of safari days gone by whilst being surrounded by contemporary touches like private plunge pools and glass-fronted tents. The camp’s interiors are elegant and comfortable and all rooms have en-suite bathrooms with bathtub and shower, running water and flushing toilets. Our electricity is solar-powered and there is a standby generator for refrigeration and charging devices. Typically, after a day’s excursion, return to relax in your hammock or meet up for sundowners by the campfire before enjoying dinner served under the stars.

Segera Retreat, Laikipia Region, Kenya

Overlooking snow-capped Mount Kenya, luxurious Segera Retreat is found on Laikipia’s savannah grasslands, home to the second-highest density of wildlife in Kenya. Game drives, guided nature walks and cultural activities showcase the environment, facilitated by an Experience Host and Guide. Beautifully renovated stables form the core of the main area, while six large luxurious villas rise on wooden platforms above a profusion of botanical life. The lavish new Farmhouse Homestead, Segera House and perfectly-positioned Villa Segera boast even greater privacy and luxury. Throughout, the Retreat and its gardens are filled with selected paintings and other art from amongst Africa’s most inspiring artists from The Zeitz Collection. Other delights include a spa and gym, as well as the unique Nay Palad Bird’s Nest sleep-out. The sumptuous cuisine comprises Segera’s own free-range beef and organic vegetables.

Chem Chem lodge, Lake Manyara, Tanzania

Enveloped within 20 000 hectares (55 000 acres) of raw, untainted African bush lies the Chem Chem – Burunge Wildlife Management Area (WMA), with secluded, elegant tent-style accommodation at three locations: Chem Chem Lodge, Little Chem Chem and Forest Chem Chem. Each is designed to evoke the spirit, luxury and intimacy of a vintage safari experience. Nowhere does Chem Chem Lodge impose, but rather blends in with the unfenced wilderness that stretches on all sides. The permanent structure of Chem Chem’s main Lodge reflects the form of a flamingo with its wings spread wide for landing. One wing holds the full-service gourmet restaurant and an outside fire place, the other wing offers a lounge, fire place and fully stocked library. The Lodge also boasts a viewing deck with awe-inspiring views over Lake Manyara. Outside, discover the gym or the pool hidden in the trees while the Chem Chem Spa offers a new meaning to utter relaxation.
